Can I use NFC tags?
Yes, in two ways. Mark as done: a tag on the task, hold the iPhone to it, done – without looking for the app. Open a task and report a need: the tag opens the quick view with “Done”, how-to and report buttons, e.g. “dishwasher running – unload in 3 hours”. You need blank NFC stickers (NTAG, a few cents each) and an iPhone.
Part 1
Mark as done: scan completes immediately
The tag sits right on the task – on the bin, the cat food tin, the light switch. On contact the open task is completed immediately, with a few seconds to undo.
- Open the task template
Manage → Task templates → tap the task (e.g. “take out the trash”).
- Section “NFC tag on the task”
Scroll down to NFC tag on the task and switch on Scan completes immediately. Save.
- Write the tag
Tap Write NFC tag, then Write now and hold the top of the iPhone to the sticker until Tag written. appears. Optionally Lock tag first – then the tag can never be changed again.
- Stick it on and check
Attach the sticker to the task. With Verify tag the app reads the tag and confirms: “This tag belongs to the task …”.
- Day to day: hold, done
Hold the unlocked iPhone to the tag. The app opens the task quick view and shows Erledigt! with the points. A short countdown runs at the bottom (… Sekunden bis zur Speicherung) – Rückgängig takes back an accidental scan. Without reception the completion is saved as soon as you are back online.
If the task requires proof (checklist, photo, signature, reading) or more than one instance is currently open for you, the scan shows Erledigt as a button instead. The editor says so as well: “This task requires proof …”.
The completion is credited to the iPhone’s active profile. If no profile is active on the device, the app first asks “Who are you?” and then opens the task.
Part 2
Open a task and report a need: “dishwasher running – unload in 3 hours”
Here the scan completes nothing by itself. It opens the task with “Done”, how-to and the report buttons. Whoever starts the dishwasher taps “running – unload in 3 hours”, and collabDoo creates an extra task at exactly that time for the person whose turn it is.
- Open the task template
Manage → Task templates → “unload the dishwasher”.
- Leave “scan completes immediately” off
In the NFC tag on the task section the switch stays off – the scan should only open the task.
- Create a report option
In the Report a need section tap Add report option (or Insert suggestion). Label in German, optionally English: “Running – unload in 3 hours”. Offset: 3 hours. Choose a symbol, Apply.
- More options (up to 6)
For example “due now” with offset “due immediately” or “dishwasher is full” with 30 minutes. Then Speichern.
- Write the tag and stick it on the dishwasher
Write NFC tag → Write now → hold the iPhone to it. Sticker on the dishwasher.
- Day to day: report instead of remembering
Started the dishwasher? Hold the iPhone to the tag – the quick view shows your open tasks for it at the top and the Melden section below. One tap on “running – unload in 3 hours” and it says Gemeldet – Max ist dran (or “to everyone eligible” if the task is up for grabs). Max gets a notification, the task is due in 3 hours.
Every profile may report, kids included. Per task there is at most one open reported task – a second tap shows Bereits gemeldet, fällig …. The reported task is distributed by the template’s normal assignment rules (fixed person, rotation, fair, up for grabs).
The report buttons also appear in the app in the task detail and on the object – the NFC tag is just the fastest way there.
Part 3
A tag on the object instead of a single task
If several tasks belong to one thing – feed, change water, clean the hutch for the rabbits – the tag is better placed on the object. The scan then shows all open tasks of this object, the how-tos and the report buttons of all related tasks.
- Open the object
Manage → Objects → tap the object (e.g. “rabbits”).
- Write the NFC tag
In the NFC tag section tap Write NFC tag → Write now and hold the top of the iPhone to the sticker. Optionally Lock tag.
- Attach to the object
Sticker on the hutch, the coffee machine or the printer. On contact the object quick view opens: picture and location, Offene Aufgaben with a big “Done”, Melden, how-tos and Zuletzt erledigt.
Part 4
Good to know
Blank NFC stickers of type NTAG (NDEF), available for a few cents each. Writing and verifying only works on iPhone – iPad and simulator show a notice. Reading: iPhones from XS detect the tag in the background as soon as the screen is on; older iPhones need the Control Center tile “NFC Tag Reader”.
Only a plain link to the task or object in your household – no secret and no personal data. Opening the link without the app leads to a web page; with the app the quick view opens. Everyone only sees their own open tasks there, because the server checks household and permissions like on every request.
A tag is only read when you deliberately hold the iPhone to it. And even with “scan completes immediately” there is the countdown with “Undo” – an accidental scan does not tick anything off for good.
The tag is a standard link. The future Android app will read the same stickers without you having to rewrite anything.
